Hobbit Feet Process by deeed Hobbit Feet Process by deeed
So here's the gist of what I did to make my hobbit feet for my upcoming cosplay. Haven't worn them too much yet, mostly to check they do fit and are pretty easy to walk around in, but have gotten a lot of compliments. As well as questions on how I made them. Hence this submission!

Can't take credit for the idea. Came from seeing [link]
Thank you :icondamnitsasha: for answering all my questions!

I couldn't really find these "funny feet"unless they're the dog toy ones. Are they the dog toy funny feet?

Afraid not. I just had a quick look on Amazon and Ebay too but couldn't see the ones I originally bought.

That's nifty.  I'm wondering if making a cast of a man's foot would work similarly.  I'm trying to make a costume so my kid brother can dress as either Frodo or Bilbo, depends on which wig he gets, and I was thinking about trying to use my boyfriend's size 13 foot to make a plaster cast and then slip the kid's shoe into it and go from there.  Think it could work?

I think it definitely has potential! Just need to consider what you're making the molds of. Needs to be pretty durable as they'll be walking around on them.

Feet from ebay and the wig from a hairdresser near my office. It was a lot more fluffy, I had to tame it down.

I'm working on a Bilbo cosplay and plan on making a pair of these...what kind of "gap filler" did you use? Thanks!

Hmm... I forget the brand name... Just bought it at the hardware store. Comes in an aerosol can and squirts out like a sort of foam that quickly hardens.

Ohh, like the caulking foam stuff? Did you have to test it in small amounts and then see if it fit on the shoe properly? What was your process with it? Thanks again!

Now sure what that is. I can tell you the brand when I get home if you like.
Mostly my process was to glue the foot/toes (because I cut off most of the heel and sole) onto the shoe and then poke the nozzle of the foam stuff into the gaps and fill it in. You might want to put some in and put it on the shoe while still soft as I think I indented the shoe part a bit with mine and it's not very comfortable to wear now.

thanks for the example
I'm also working with a hobbit costume
and with the feet
and I only uncertain about the glue
do you think they easily could walk all day on it
without them breaking up?

And sorry for my bad english. :D

Walking in them takes a bit of practice. You can't put too much pressure on the toes (try to walk more on the flats of your feet). Mine did crack a little at the join after a couple of day's wear but it's hard to prevent since the plastic foot part is rigid.

If you're careful they'll last all day. Also, make sure they're glued firmly.

Did you use hot glue or a different type of glue?

I used super glue. (the stuff in that little tube with the yellow lid that you can see in the first photo) But I found the gap-filler was best at securing the foot. You can certainly try hot glue, if you don't think it'll melt the plastic foot. Just be sure to try it out after it dries to make sure it's not going to come off when you walk around.

Good luck with your cosplays! Would love to see some photos when you've finished!

Y'know... if I would have looked, I would have seen the super glue in the picture. I'm a dork like that :B

Anyways, thanks for the advice. I told my roommate that I had the same worries about hot glue you mentioned. I'd think that super glue would work better in the long run.

Eventually, we'll have photos. We're heading to ACEN this May, she'll be Bilbo and I'll be Gandalf. Then it's off to work on Fili and Kili's costumes for our local con in November.

I really have to take some decent photos of me in my Pippin outfit. The great thing about being a hobbit was that my height was perfect! Haha! Next year I'm thinking I want to be one of the dwarves too. Probably Bofur, maybe Ori? Heheh but Kili and Fili would be great for you and a friend.

Well, if you decide to scamper over to ACEN in Chicago next year in May... and you go as a dwarf. Look for us. We'd gladly dash about with you! :)

Thank you! It was one of my fav cosplays. I must put up some more photos.

P.S. You make an adorable Merry! And I had the same thing happen to me. Despite the scarf and blue jacket people kept calling me Frodo. XD

Thanks so much! And MAN, I know! Some of the people were quoting the movie to me and they still called me Frodo or Bilbo.

That's just racist, thinking all hobbits look alike. XD
